So you know how all the great climbers have that far-away look? New research published in the European Journal of Neurology shows that high-altitude exposure can cause subtle white and grey matter changes in the brain. Researchers found that reduced oxygen due to high-altitude exposure relates to atrophy in motor-function brain areas.Italian researchers took MRI scans of nine world-class male mountainclimbers, before and replica iluxury watches afterexpeditions to Everest and K2. Subjects had at least 10 years climbing experience and attempted the two highest peaks without oxygen.Measured changes in brain density and volume affected memory (both immediate and delayed recall), and the ability to anticipate outcomes and adapt to changing situations.--Matthew Fishbane
When G3 came out with the Reverend in 2005, with a rapturous face of a religious man on the front of the ski, it was, in my mind at least, one of the coolest topsheet graphics around. So I was a bit disappointed with the more subdued graphic—and sort of scary-looking preacher—on this years ski. (Note: Its the same exact ski, just with a Replica IWC watches different graphic.)Next year, we might be looking at yet another new graphic. The British Columbia-based ski and and backcountry accessory maker recently announced it’s having a contest to see who can come up with the coolest graphic design for their skis. The deadline for entries is January 1st, 2009, and the 20 semifinalists will have their designs printed and showcased on the contest website and at the Coldsmoke Powder Festival in Nelson, British Columbia. The winner will then be announced at the actual event the weekend of February 20th, 2009. (Last note: If you haven’t been to Nelson, put it on your list.
